How to take care of your car tires when it is parked for a long time

Having a car means you are moving a lot and the car is always in motion. But with COVID-19 since there is no guarantee that you will move often. Like everything car wheels also need motion as they are made for motion. Here in our blog post today we have gathered tips and tricks on how to take care of your car tires when your vehicle is parked for a long time.

Inspect and prepare the tires

The first step to inspect and prepare your tires for a long stay is to properly clean the tires from any dust or mud or anything that can be stuck in it. Make sure to clean your car rims with care. Once the tires are clean and dry, its time to give them some dressing. Remember always use solvent-free tire dressing. The tire dressing must be of good quality because all the good tire dressing has UV protection. Once you are done with the cleaning, give them a thorough look. Look for any nails or tears or anything that is a stick in the tire.

Get your car airborne

Now it’s time to get your car above the ground. It can be done using a lift or jack or you can use the good old fashioned brick stake. In doing so make sure the car is stable and even on from all sides. Also, make the support stronger and firm so that it doesn’t slip away after a while.

Over inflate the tires

Since we are done the airborne phase now let’s over inflate your tires to get extra support for them. Normally 15 psi or one bar is enough to over-inflate your tire but adjust it accordingly so that it does not exceed the maximum limit. But make sure to check the air pressure when you drive your car next time. You can do so by putting a note in your car so the next time when you get into your car you know that you have to check the air pressure in your car tires.

Move the car back and forth

Your car tires are clean and inspected; you got it in the air and are over-inflated. After doing all this, move your car both back and forth up to the random distance. You don’t have to turn on the engine just push it back and forth because just turning on and off the engine can drain your battery. Since you won’t be driving for a long time so it is better to reserve the battery. Also the sensors and other electronics won't work when you start the car again. This motion will help prevent flat spots. You can repeat this process after a week or so.

Find a shade for your car

As car tires don’t really like UV rays so it is best to find proper shelter for your car. If you don’t have a garage in your home, you can cover your car is a good quality cover to keep it safe from direct sunlight.

Tire Trainers

If you don’t have access to jack or somehow you cannot get your car in the air then you can buy so good quality tire trainers. Tire trainers are contoured foam blocks that you can sit your car in. It helps relieve the pressure that is built due to the hard surface.
