Taking off Wheel Hub Assembly:

If your car wheel has a center cap or a hub seal cap covering the lug nuts, the hub seal cap can be easily removed by pulling whereas a screwdriver would be needed for removing center caps. You need to insert the screwdriver in and pop out the center cap from your car wheels. Before removing the car wheels you need to loosen your axle nut in the center of the wheel.

Usually, a cotter pin and a locking cap are present in the axle nut. You have to straighten out the tabs on the cotter pin remove the 8mm cotter pin or the 9 mm cotter pin and lock cap to access the axle nut. You just have to align the locking cap and the holes and install the new 8mm cotter pin, bend the legs over through the opening. During the car, the wheel makes sure to keep the tire grounded at this point to prevent it from spinning. The most commonly used lug nuts are 17mm lug nuts, 19mm lug nuts, and 21mm lug nuts. Remove the lug nuts hat using the right socket and a breaker bar. Rotate the breaker bar to rotate once to now let the car wheel fall. This can also be done using a wheel lock key by inserting it into the locking lug if you have one.

When removing the last lug nut you want to keep your hand on the tire to prevent it from dropping. The car wheel can be put aside to remove two hex bolts on the back of the car wheel caliper. Pop off the rubber cap to access the bolts. Lift the car wheel caliper up using a small pry bar or a screwdriver freeing the car wheel caliper from the pads. Now use a zip tie to secure the car wheel caliper to prevent it from getting damaged during the repair.

Remove the pads by popping them out using a flat blade screwdriver by inserting the screwdriver in and applying pressure towards the outer side. The two bolts on the back of the spindle. You need to crack loose both of them pull out the bolt and remove the car wheel caliper bracket from the spindle. The rotor disc may be secured using a torque screw removal. The rotor disc might get stuck to the wheel hub from rust and corrosion. So one can tap between the studs using a hammer to remove the rust and remove the rotor disc. Remove the axle nut by hand. Place a punch in the small hole in the center and tap using a hammer.

Remove three bolts securing the wheel hub onto the spindle. Using penetrating oil at the back of the bolts. This will help in the removal of the bolts. Using a chisel wedge between the wheel hub and the spindle. Remove the bolt on the ABS and secure the sensor. One needs to be careful as you do not want to break the sensor. Grab the sensors with a pair of pliers twisting the plier back and forth to pull out the sensor. Finally, the wheel hub is removed from the vehicle.

Reinstalling Wheel Hub Assembly:

Reinstall the wheel hub onto the axle by reinstalling the abs sensor along with the bolt. The easiest way to align the wheel hub is to insert bolts and tighten them. Reinstall the axle bolt by hand. Press the rotor disc in the flat using washers and install lug nuts by hand. This will hold the rotor disc making it easier to install the car wheel caliper bracket by securing the two bolts that secure it. Tighten the bolts using a socket and ratchet. Install the brake pads on the rotor disc and apply grease on the backside of them. Carefully press using pliers so that you do not push the piston out. Once the pistons are fully compressed place them on the pads and push the pins in to allow the car wheel caliper back into place reinstall the hardware. Tighten the bolts and reinstall your wheel and tire. Reinstall your lug nuts and get the car wheel back to the ground.
